Use SSV in Speech Therapy Sessions

The Speech Sounds Visualized App is an innovative and engaging tool to use in articulation therapy! Use the App for in-person or teletherapy sessions, with elementary school-aged children through adults. The x-rays and 3D animations demonstrate how speech sounds are formed, which can be paramount to efficiency in therapy progression. The recording feature can be a great way to encourage self-monitoring and can even be used for home practice.

English Language Learners

Use the Speech Sounds Visualized App to help you perfect your pronunciation of the most challenging English sounds. Vowels are the foundation of a language and often the best place to start. Test yourself by recording how you sound compared to that which is in the App. Move along to consonants and even practice all of the sounds within words and sentences. Whenever you feel challenged, zoom in to examine the x-rays or the animations of how each sound is formed to study this more closely.

Use SSV in the Classroom!

Speech Sounds Visualized is a highly interactive and engaging teaching tool for University Speech & Hearing Sciences courses. It is especially well-suited for phonetics courses as well as courses that address place, manner, and voicing of speech sounds.

Suggested uses for this tool include connecting an iPad (with the Speech Sounds Visualized App installed) through HDMI to share on the large screen throughout your lecture. Use features such as zoom, slow motion, and recording to assist your students in reaching learning objectives. Toggle between the standard version and the phonetic version as needed. Additional iPads distributed around the room may also be beneficial. Download the Speech Sounds Visualized App on clinic iPads for use as a teaching tool as well as for use with appropriate speech sound impairment clients.
